The biggest lie I ever told.

Honesty is something controversial in this society. Everyone somewhat encourages it, but do they really mean that? “Yeah, tell the truth, it’s the right thing to do.” However, I think I can speak for everyone in saying that we all have lied at some point to make someone feel better.

“You do forgive me, right?” “Yeah. I forgive you.”

One of the worst things I ever did was telling friends that I forgave them, or that it’s ok, or that it’s no big deal, when really all that’s inside me is hurt and anger. Why is it so hard for me to tell people the truth about what I’m feeling? Lying to someone now gives me a clean break, but that’s only temporary, isn’t it? I only get that comfort for so long. There’s only so much bottling up of my true feelings before I burst…or before I stop feeling anything at all. Is it really worth avoiding the confrontation?

Bottom line: Lying to make someone feel better does not help anyone. In the long run, it hurts more than anything.
