Reminiscence

I had a serious deja vu the other day.

When I was little, around Christmastime (so pretty much the whole month of December), my mom would always whip out this cassette tape (I think this was before CD’s existed) that was the “soundtrack” of the Nutcracker ballet. I would listen to the cassette tape every night to help me fall asleep. I had completely forgotten all of this until I went and saw the Nutcracker last Thursday. I love ballet, but I think the Nutcracker is one of my favorites. Somewhere in the middle of it, I realized that I recognized all of the music that was playing, and I remembered how I would listen to the cassette tape. It made me so happy. And this sounds dumb, but if I ever have a kid, I am going to play the Nutcracker soundtrack for them while they’re trying to go asleep.
